This book combines the approaches of phenomenological psychopathology, Gestalt psychology and therapy, and field theory into a new view of the suffering person.
Instead of attributing to him a dysfunction that medical therapy has to correct, Francesetti’s conception sees the dysfunction as a change in the phenomenal field that connects patient and therapist as embodied persons and produces an interactive psychopathological dynamics.
Francesetti thus succeeds in overcoming the still dominant notion of an “inner psyche” and a correspondingly individualistic view of psychopathology: The “in-between” is the actual place of the disorder, its diagnosis and therapy.
